Scuffle breaks out at court appearance for man accused of murdering Calgary's Nick Lush

COCHRANE — Supporters of an accused murderer and his alleged victim almost came to blows outside Cochrane provincial court Tuesday.

The expletive-heavy verbal confrontation erupted minutes after Kristopher Goerzen, 22, made his first court appearance, charged with the first-degree murder of Nick Lush whose body was found April 6 near Longview.

His case was put over until April 21 when he’s to be present at the same time as co-accused Cody Bauer, 24, of Calgary.

Brooks resident Goerzen appeared on closed circuit TV clad in the Calgary Remand Centre’s blue and black coveralls and remains in custody.
An RCMP officer raced to the scene of the confrontation in the courthouse parking lot between women who were among half a dozen of Goerzen’s backers and one of two females supportive of Lush.

They have been in the same court room earlier.
The Mountie gave both parties warnings before letting them leave.
Lush was last seen at a Springbank house party March 29 though RCMP believe he was seen being beaten by two men in an underpass at Hermitage Rd. off the TransCanada Hwy. soon after.
Bauer and Goerzen were arrested in Cranbrook on April 5.
