Lee Brown and Natasha Snow hired Darren McKay to babysit their 11-month-old daughter for an evening out together. Upon returning home, it was clear that all was not well.
Instead of caring for their child, McKay was drunk and hosting a party replete with loud music and plenty of rabble-rousers. The baby was in the middle of the foray.
After grabbing and dragging McKay out of the house, Brown proceeded to punch him repeatedly in the face. When Brown was done, McKay suffered bruising, swelling, a broken eye socket, nose, forehead and jaw.
The police were called and Brown was arrested for inflicting “grievous bodily harm.” Though he admits he lost his temper, Brown states he was merely trying to protect his daughter from the out-of-control circumstances.
It is true: Brown used excessive force when confronting McKay. Violence of this magnitude is not justified.
However, the big picture is this: Brown was standing up for his daughter and stepped in to take care of the situation. At a time when fathers are increasingly absent from the home, it is encouraging to see a man who is willing to “stand in the gap” for his daughter.
