Woman accused of faking cancer, heart condition charged with fraud

CALGARY- A single mother of two who was the beneficiary of $20,000 worth of donations due to her supposed health problems has been charged with fraud.

Police say that between December 2012 and last June, a woman told her employer and co-workers that she had both a fatal heart condition and Stage 4 breast cancer, and provided a fake doctors note. As a result, a number of fundraisers were held for her, which resulted in about $20,000 worth of donations.

One held last June raised $12,000.

GUANAJUATO, Mexico -- A 14-year-old Mexican girl who was taken by authorities and sent screaming to live in the United States was returned home Wednesday after DNA tests showed she is not the daughter of the Houston woman who claimed her.

The case of Alondra Luna Nunez drew international attention after a video of the distraught girl being forced into a police vehicle last week circulated in media and on social networks.

Montreal woman convicted of posting anti-police graffiti on Instagram

MONTREAL – A woman who posted an image online of a senior Montreal police officer with a bullet in his head was convicted Thursday of criminal harassment.

Jennifer Pawluck was charged in 2013 after snapping a photo of graffiti, which she didn’t draw, and uploading it to Instagram, a photo-sharing social media site.

Quebec court Judge Marie-Josee Di Lallo said she had no doubt the criteria necessary to find Pawluck guilty of harassment had been met.

The judge also made it clear that online behavior can have repercussions.

Michigan woman gets 3-7-years for shooting over bacon-less burger

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – A Michigan woman has been sentenced to three to seven years in prison for opening fire at a McDonald’s restaurant after workers twice failed to put bacon on her burgers.

Authorities say 30-year-old Shaneka Torres became angry in February 2014 when the first burger she ordered at the restaurant’s drive-up station was missing bacon. She was offered a free meal, but bacon also wasn’t added to a second burger order.

APPT Nanjing Millions shut down by police

The APPT Nanjing Millions has been dramatically shut down after the Chinese National Police raided the tournament today.

 WGM broke the story this afternoon after learning that police had blocked the entrance to the Wutaishan Sports Center, where the event had been running since Tuesday. A sign on the door of the stadium read: “Due to the APPT Nanjing Millions tournament being suspected of illegal gambling, the police are now investigating and the event is being ceased. All related staff should go and register at the designated location and co-operate with the police for the investigation.”
